Associate, Volunteer Engagement

Description:

Recruit, retain, and manage volunteers from corporations, faith communities, education institutions, civic and social groups, the general public, and other appropriate sources. This will be accomplished by managing the development of a focused outreach and communications strategy for volunteers to facilitate the connection of volunteers with United Way's work, especially ReadUP readers and tutors, and other appropriate opportunities at United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI).

 

Duties:
  • Develop ongoing and strategic partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, schools, and other groups.
  • Maintain and update needed promotional items, including marketing brochures, application materials, product sheets, and other printed materials.
  • Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to better determine appropriate placements, volunteer satisfaction, and other appropriate information.
  • Develop and conduct surveys, evaluations, and other outcome measurements for volunteer programs.
  • Calculate and track volunteer statistical data, including ReadUP statistics (#'s of tutors trained and placed, timeslots needed to be filled, etc.)
  • Organize, manage, and train large groups of volunteers and provide an exemplary degree of customer service.

Qualifications:

Competencies Required:  Interpersonal Communications,Integrity/Accountability,Customer Service, Strategic Thinking, Diversity/Inclusion, Relationship Building. Functional Competencies are Volunteer Relations and Management, Project and Workload Management and Job Knowledge.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in the not for profit area or volunteer program management required.

Excellent public relations skills. Computer proficient. Ability to travel, work long hours and work well with others. Must be self-motivated, self-directed, able to handle multiple tasks, manage time efficiently, prioritize responsibilities, willing to take strategic risks and assume responsibility while working independently with minimal supervision. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to train and prepare volunteers for various roles and responsibilities. Must have experience teaching or presenting to large groups. Must be able to plan, develop, implement, follow-up, and evaluate successful projects. An understanding of staff and volunteer roles desired.
